about

Jabez Coffee was born out of a passion for bringing people together and letting them enjoy each other’s company.

Jim and Vivien, the founders of Jabez Coffee, recognize that food is a powerful tool to bring people together. This is especially true for coffee, which is why the couple entertained the idea of roasting coffee in their old house garage and started to host their neighbors and friends for get together over coffee.

Needless to say, their guests loved this, and Jim and Vivien felt the urge to create their own brand of roasted coffee.

Jim started to go around and visit the coffee shops on the Bay Area. He brought home samples of local coffee beans and began to study the formulas. He wanted to share his wonderful experiences with coffee but sadly, he couldn’t find what he was looking for.

A revelation happened when a family friend introduced Jim to another couple in the coffee business in Atlanta. He learned a lot from them and began his journey towards understanding the ins and outs of handling coffee and the business behind it.

THE NAMe

The name “Jabez” means “sorrow” in Hebrew and comes from Biblical story. Jabez’s mother named him so because she bore him with pain and sorrow but Jabez asked his life to be blessed and God answered his prayers.

Jim and Vivien were inspired by the symbolism in this story. In order to make coffee, the bean has to roast in a high-heat environment and crack and split in order to become the delicious coffee we drink. Similarly, although life can be painful, it’s in these high-heat moments that we can rise to the occasion and discover the real blessing of life.

The rest, as they say, is history!

Jabez Coffee Testament

As a relatively new player in the coffee industry, it’s safe to say Jabez Coffee enjoys the flexibility and personalized service that start-ups are known for. They are also very particular with every batch of coffee roasted and served. They make sure that each cup is fresh and provides the necessary energy and nourishment you need.

For now, the main focus is to introduce micro-roasted coffee to as many people as Jabez Coffee can reach.

Why Micro-roasted?

Coffee is almost everyone’s daily driver. Due to its availability, we don’t always appreciate coffee as we should. This is where micro-roasted coffee really makes a difference.

Due to the large volume needed, commercial companies have to roast coffee in large quantities. This isn’t inherently bad but if you compare this to micro-roasted coffee, you’ll notice a huge difference in the following:

1. Consistency of the beans

2. Flavor of the output

3. Aroma

A master roaster is assigned to monitor the roasting of each batch (usually one to ten pounds) and this ensures every batch is produced with the highest attention to detail and quality.

Jabez Coffee aims to supply the world with its specialty coffee. The company plans to sell its coffee in San Francisco.
